English This thesis explores the prevalent impact of time pressure on employees in Switzerland and investigates the crucial role of Human Resources (HR) in mitigating these challenges to foster enhanced wellbeing and job performance at work. By examining up-to-date research and insights, this study aims to raise awareness and empower individuals to cultivate a more favourable working environment.
Time pressure has become a significant concern, as indicated by reference studies and research, highlighting a prevalent sense of struggle rather than thriving across Europe. This struggle is primarily driven by stress, the main negative emotion linked to persistent workplace pressure. Interestingly, research shows that teams with thriving employees experience notable benefits, including reduced absenteeism, lower turnover rates, fewer accidents, and increased customer loyalty, all of which contribute to enhanced job performance.
Employees identify HR as crucial in addressing time constraints. While managers acknowledge their team members' time pressures, concrete steps towards resolution are often lacking. Additionally, personnel management lacks prioritization within annual goals, which frequently favour quantitative metrics, leading to imbalances.
To effectively address time pressure within organisations, a multifaceted approach is necessary. This includes a fundamental shift in organisational perspective towards a human-centric vision, recognizing the pivotal role of employees. Strengthening communication channels as well as offering tailored training programs for employees, managers, and HR professionals are essential for fostering understanding, support and equipping them with the requisite skills and strategies.
Furthermore, cultivating a collaborative environment that engages all stakeholders is crucial, acknowledging time pressure as a collective challenge. Enhanced partnerships between HR, managers, and other departments contribute to aligning missions and objectives. However, for change to have a significant and sustainable impact, it must be initiated by top management. Individual responsibility is also emphasized, encouraging proactive engagement rather than passive enduring. By implementing these measures, organisations can proactively tackle time pressure issues, promoting a culture of wellbeing, productivity, and sustained success within companies.
